Daniel José Custódio is one of the most dynamic and revolutionary spoken word artists in the world. According to Susan Sanchez-Casal, Ph.D., Latin American and Spanish Literatures, “Custódio’s poetry is salvation, inspiration, truth, healing and weapon against the oppressors.”
Daniel is a three-time PSi National Poetry Championship competitor and is currently the top ranked slam poet in the world in the Slam Master |

category. Daniel is also a member and the founder of Slam Nahuatl, currently the second ranked team in the world in the Group Piece category.
Daniel is a member of the Virginia Commission for the Arts' Artist Roster List and has taught poetry workshops to hundreds of disenfranchised, inner-city youth. His newest project, the “End Hunger” Slam, seeks to do just that in the city of Richmond.
Daniel has performed at some of the most premier poetry venues in the world including
the Nuyorican Poet's Café in NYC, the Bowery Poetry Club in NYC and the Green Mill
in Chicago. He has also performed at various Colleges and theatrical venues.
Daniel graduated from Hamilton College where he studied Creative Writing and later went on to graduate from Northwestern University with a Master’s degree in Educational Entrepreneurship. Daniel currently resides in Historical Church Hill in Richmond,
